Ex-Muslims of North America

Our Vision We envision a world where every person is free to follow their conscience, irrespective of religious dogma or oppression.
Faithless Hijabi
Resource Director
For many ExMuslims, leaving Islam is not simply a personal belief change — it can mean losing family, community, and safety. Doubt or disbelief is often met with stigma, emotional harm, or threats, and in some places carries serious legal or social consequences. As a result, many ExMuslims live in silence. They carry religious trauma, fear of being discovered, and the isolation of navigating life without the support systems they once relied on. Accessing mental health care that understands these realities is often unsafe or impossible. Faithless Hijabi exists to meet this need. We work to ensure ExMuslims can access care, advocacy, and representation without fear — centring dignity, safety, and autonomy in everything we do.

Depression and thoughts of suicide are not uncommon during the initial stages of feeling trapped in a religion you no longer believe. We want to provide every assistance to guide and support you through this period, and assure you that there is a bright future ahead. This is particularly so if you take the time to learn from the experiences of others, and reach out to all the caring people that want to help. Despite what Watchtower teaches, there are many people that care and are willing to help you. Some work at your school, others in the medical community, often providing free assistance. Former Jehovah’s Witnesses understand you like no one else can, knowing from their own experience how hard it is to break free from a high control religious group. Many offer advice on internet forums, and arrange meet up gatherings in cities around the world.
